Polly Hunter Grimes
State Regent
2007 - 2010

Welcome to the website of the Mississippi State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. The State Board of Management and I are delighted to share with you the goals and objectives of the State Society through this avenue of communication.

Since the organization of the Mississippi State Society on May 5, 1896, in Natchez, our Society has grown from one chapter with twelve members to eighty-one chapters with over 4100 members. Under the leadership of thirty-seven State Regents, we have promoted the three objectives of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution - Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism.

Two major historic preservation projects are the Natchez Trace Parkway and the Rosalie Mansion in Natchez. Mississippi Daughters began erecting granite markers on the Trace in 1908 and have faithfully supported this project for almost a century. On May 21, 2005, the Nettles Administration held a marker dedication commemorating the MSSDAR involvement in the Natchez Trace after the completion of the Parkway from Nashville to Natchez. In 1938, the Rosalie Mansion in Natchez was purchased and has been the Mississippi State Society Headquarters for almost seventy years. Our "Home on the Bluff" is magnificient, beautifully restored, and a top tourist attraction throughout the year.

The Mississippi Daughters promote education as we present awards and scholarships to outstanding students and teachers all over the state. Teaching American history and good citizenship encourages our students to have a greater sense of responsibility to our country and to the society in which we live.

Patriotism is an important element of the State Society's work. Schools are encouraged to observe patriotic events and to teach respect the American flag. We support the military by volunteering at veteran hospitals, conducting patriotic programs, and supporting our troops and their families with e-mails, letters, and care packages. We are all reminded that the freedoms we have in this country are a result of the sacrifices made by our military men and women, past and present. Let us always be grateful!

It is the desire of this Hunter Grimes Administration to faithfully conduct the business of our Society and to challenge our Mississippi Daughters to "Celebrate Our Heritage in the Spirit of Faith, Harmony, and Hospitality"! May I express again my sincere appreciation for the faith placed in me to serve as State Regent! By faith in God, in harmony with our fellow Daughters, and with hospitality to each other and our communities, we will promote our Society's work with love and enthusiasm!
